Thymosin Alpha-1
Also known as: TΞ±1, Thymalfasin, Zadaxin
A 28-amino acid peptide derived from prothymosin alpha. One of the most researched immunomodulatory peptides, used clinically in multiple countries for hepatitis B, C, and immune deficiency.
Overview
Thymosin Alpha-1 is the N-terminal fragment of prothymosin alpha, naturally produced by the thymus gland. It plays a central role in T-cell maturation and differentiation and has been used clinically in Asia, Eastern Europe, and South America as an immune enhancer for decades under the brand name Zadaxin. It has undergone clinical trials in hepatitis B, hepatitis C, lung cancer, and melanoma.
Preclinical and clinical research has demonstrated TΞ±1's ability to enhance both innate and adaptive immunity, restore T-cell function in immunocompromised states, and modulate inflammatory responses without causing the hyperinflammation associated with other immune stimulants. It has been investigated as an adjuvant for vaccines and in COVID-19 management.
Mechanism of Action
Thymosin Alpha-1 binds to TLR-9 and TLR-2, stimulating innate immune dendritic cell activation and downstream adaptive immune responses. It promotes CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell differentiation, enhances NK cell activity, and upregulates MHC class II expression. Unlike non-specific immune stimulants, it normalizes rather than maximally stimulates immune function.
