Overview
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide based on a partial sequence of the endogenous Body Protection Compound found in human gastric juice. It has demonstrated remarkable regenerative properties across a wide range of tissue types in preclinical research β including tendons, ligaments, muscles, bone, cornea, and intestinal epithelium β with an exceptional safety profile in animal studies.
BPC-157 is distinct from most peptides in that it appears to be "pleiotropic" β capable of healing multiple tissue types through several simultaneous mechanisms. It has been shown to work both locally (at the site of injury) and systemically when administered peripherally. Over 200 published studies document its effects in rat models, making it one of the most thoroughly pre-clinically researched peptides. Human clinical data is limited but under active investigation.
Mechanism of Action
BPC-157 upregulates growth factor signaling (VEGF, EGF, FGF) to accelerate angiogenesis and tissue remodeling. It activates the FAK-paxillin pathway to promote cell survival and migration. It also modulates the NO-system, potentially protecting endothelial cells from damage. Its systemic effects may be partly mediated through the vagus nerve and the gut-brain axis.
